Scholarship owner: Beth & Mark Hedlund
Beth’s teaching and mentoring has touched more the 1,000 students over the course of a 30-plus year career, most of it at the intermediate grade level in the Elk Grove Unified School District.  Mark was a national award-winning broadcast journalist, best know for his 28 years of reporting at KXTV News 10 in Sacramento.  Mark was inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences (Emmys) in 2006.
Beth and Mark has been involved in community activities since moving to Elk Grove in 1981.  Beth is co-chair of the Strauss Festival board of directors and is on the board of director for Uplift People of Elk Grove.  Mark is president of the board for Uplift, long-time master of ceremonies for Strauss and on the board for Elk Grove HART (Homeless Assistance Resource Team).  Both have been involved in the Elk Grove Winter Sanctuary homeless program since it began in 2013, with Mark as co-director for the past several years.  Both are also active in the mission of the Elk Grove United Methodist Church.  Mark was honored as Elk Grove Citizen of the Year in 2011.
